YWSC Quilts
Every year, YWSC members are asked to create individual quilt squares that are eventually sewn together to become the annual Club quilt. Though the theme of the quilt varies from year to year, each project has celebrated the history of women in the creative arts, as well as our members’ own artistic talents. The quilt allows for the individual voices of the Club to be melded into one symbol of unity and friendship.
Once a theme is chosen, such as “Our Stories” or “Women in History,” students and mentors are provided with supplies to make their quilt squares. Paints, needlework and even beads are used to create these small works of art, which are then sewn together. The finished quilt exemplifies the value of group work and community involvement, and reinforces our shared support of each other as young men and women. Our YWSC quilts have been displayed at numerous charity events, and even featured in a recent San Diego State University library exhibit.
