Mentoring at its Best
YWSC at Hoover High Homecoming Parade
1) Mentors recognize and understand that mentoring is a relationally-oriented process, meaning that mentoring is about building and fostering mutually beneficial relationships.
2) Mentors are active listeners.
3) Mentors maintain high standards of attitude and behavior and encourage others to do the same.
4) Mentors are non-judgmental.
5) Mentors remember that not every individual comes to a situation or challenge in the same manner.
6) Mentors challenge others to strive for their best and to explore new ideas and concepts (even if this means engaging in dialogue or thinking about ideas that are uncomfortable and unfamiliar).
7) Mentors are culturally competent individuals.
8) Reciprocal learning occurs between mentors and Club members.
9) Mentors recognize and mitigate their privileges.
10) The YWSC is a brave and safe space to explore issues of concern to girls and young women.
