Life Skills
Club members and mentors at the Mingei Museum in San Diego
One of the Club’s core goals is to help its members develop valuable life skills that can aid them in pursuing their present and future dreams. Over the years, the YWSC has held many workshops that impart practical life- and job-related knowledge. A few examples of this have been:
- “Setting Your Sights: Your Goals”: Students create a list of their short and long term goals, then brainstorm with their mentors on how they can accomplish them.
- “That Costs How Much?”: Club members write a list of weekly expenses, and are then taught tips for budgeting and living autonomously.
- “Career Day”: Women from many professions come to talk to the Club about their work and offer advice on pursuing career goals.
- “College Application Workshop”: Mentors use their own experiences to guide students through the process of applying to colleges and for financial aid.
